Portfoliopen provides users with a place to showcase their work and build an online portfolio. The application provides free set up and hosting for the user’s portfolio website. The user can also add unlimited works and can provide their own domain mapping. The application is search engine friendly and includes sitemap creation tools and Google Analytics. Themes and customization tools are available to all users as well as internationalization features and multiple languages. Ratings and comments can be added to a user’s portfolio that include spam protection. Portfoliopen provides support for Gravatar, Twitter Flicker and RSS feeds. The Portfoliopen homepage welcomes users with a fun blue background highlighted by playful star shapes. The site includes hints of gold and red. The user’s portfolio page presents each work as an image with a title, tag and a short caption or tagline to go with it. The user can also add a short bio or paragraph about themselves, their work or what they have to offer potential clients. Visitors can view comments posted by other visitors as well as a list of portfolio updates and testimonials.

A new user can create a Portfoliopen page by entering their desired URL on the space provided on the Portfoliopen homepage. After clicking the blue “Continue” button to the right, the user is presented with the Portfoliopen registration form. The form asks for a full name, email address, password, Captcha code entry and agreement with the Portfoliopen terms of service and privacy policy. After submitting the form, the user is advised that they must check their email for an activation message which must be accessed to complete registration and access their account.

Portfoliopen is available to all users for free. There is a storage limit of 50 MB, but there are paid upgrades available. Custom domain mapping costs $15 per year. For $50 per year the ads are removed from all pages. Extra disk quota cost per year: $14,99 (500mb), $24,99 (1GB) and $39,99 (2GB). For $99,99 per year users get the full control over the appearance of their portfolio.
